Grade Level: Preschool / Kindergarten

Students hunt for specific color foods hidden around the room or outside.
Activity Outcome
Students will be able to:
-
Identify the names and colors of a variety of foods
-
Follow directions for collecting foods
-
Use memory skills to help them locate foods
Materials and Advance Prep
-
Cut out a construction paper circle or rectangle for each of the following colors: red, orange, yellow, green, white, brown
-
Select 20 - 30 Food Models that are these colors
-
Put the pieces of construction paper in a bag or box
-
Hide the Food Models throughout the classroom or outdoors in a defined area
What to Do
-
Explain to children that they are going on a food hunt.
-
Reach into the bag/box and select a color. Have the children name the color and then send them on a hunt for Food Models of the same color. Instruct them to only collect foods that are this color. If they find a food of a different color, tell them to remember where they saw it - but not to pick it up until that color is selected.
-
Give them several minutes to look for the Food Models. Then call them back and have each child name the foods they found. Ask the children if they can think of any other foods that are this color.
-
Repeat steps 2 and 3 with other colors.
