60 Seconds to Claim Your School's Recognition Certificate!
Don't leave school without having your Program Advisor check off your Six Steps on your Dashboard! When your school completes Step 3 (Youth Challenge and/or Kickoff Play), Step 5 (Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Plays) or all Six Steps, you'll qualify for a Recognition Certificate and recognition from your District Superintendent!
The suitable-for-framing Certificates of Healthy Achievement, acknowledging each Program Advisor by name, will be mailed to the principal of all qualifying schools, so the whole school gets recognized!
In addition to the certificates, a recognition letter will be sent to the District Superintendent this summer, acknowledging all schools/Program Advisors.
Make sure your school's Program Advisor checks off all of your completed Six Steps Milestones on their Dashboard to make your school eligible! (Find your school's Program Advisor in the My Team area on your Dashboard, or become a Program Advisor and check off the Steps yourself!)

Texas Program Advisor Connects Wellness, Academics and Community
Last month, we featured Ples Robinson, Program Advisor, Science and P.E. teacher at Grapevine Middle School in Grapevine, Texas. Ples is so active that we'd like to tell you more about her successful Fuel Up to Play 60 program!
In addition to spearheading an active Fuel Up to Play 60 program, Ples formed a six-week Fuel Up to Play 60 Health and Wellness class using Fuel Up to Play 60 Tools and Resources as well as the USDA's MyPyramid.
Ples has also taken Fuel Up to Play 60 into the community. This spring, students connected with the community by planning a healthy initiative, "Taste of Grapevine Middle School." Local restaurants were invited to the school, and chefs served their healthy menu items. The event was held the same evening as the spring Open House for parents, so both students and parents could sample the choices and rate their favorite foods.
Ples's program has been so successful that Grapevine students won the Back to Football Friday contest, and as a result Jason Witten of the Dallas Cowboys paid the school a visit. Students also spent time with Witten during their visit to the Super Bowl. Skylar, a National Student Ambassador at Grapevine Middle School, attended the Super Bowl and an NFL event called "Radio Row," where she had a few on-air appearances for radio stations in the NFL network.
Of course, it all comes down to sustainable change - and Ples is seeing plenty of that at her school. As a cafeteria monitor, she is happy when her students say, "Look, Mrs. Robinson, look what's on my plate," and "Look what I'm eating today: milk and salad," as they excitedly point out their nutritious choices.

Presidential Active Lifestyle Award Energizes Schools!
Congratulations to all the Fuel Up to Play 60 schools that have participated in the Presidential Active Lifestyle Award (PALA)! Because your students got 60 minutes of physical activity 5 days a week for 6 weeks, you'll be recognized by the President's Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition.
At Indiana's Meredith Nicholson Elementary School, students took a Million PALA Challenge pledge that was modeled after the Fuel Up to Play 60 Pledge. At Pennsylvania's Pottsgrove Middle School, students visited their Dashboards every week and logged their physical activity. And at Johnston Middle School in Texas, students in health and physical education classes received extra credit if they participated in the Million PALA Challenge. If your school has a success story to share, send it to Darlene Fackleman.
Remember: if your school signed up by the March 20 PALA Challenge deadline, your school qualifies for downloadable Student Recognition Certificates that you can customize with each student's name. You can download the Student Certificates from the PALA area on your Dashboard. And if your school signed up by the deadline, your school ALSO qualifies for a suitable-for-framing School Recognition Certificate, which will be sent to your school's Fuel Up to Play 60 Program Advisor by mail in May.
Haven't signed up yet? It's not too late to take the PALA Challenge. Just go to your Dashboard today and get your school started!
