Keep Moving with the Summer Theme Song Challenge!
Even though the Fuel Up to Play 60 school year is almost over, it's still important to eat healthy and stay active this summer! Encourage your students to create their own Fuel Up to Play 60 theme song and dance that tells us about all the great things they learned this year or why they love the Fuel Up to Play 60 program. They can upload videos, pictures and song lyrics for everyone to see and hear on FuelUpToPlay60.com. The Summer Theme Song Challenge runs until July 18.
When a student (or adult) uploads a Challenge entry, all students in the school will receive a special digital badge and a downloadable reward. AND the school may win additional rewards from their local Dairy Council or be featured in a national eNews! Remember: To easily view your school's Challenge entries, just log in to your Dashboard and see Challenges.

Fuel Up to Play 60 Challenges Help Spread the Word at Massachusetts School
Cindy Coughlin, Program Advisor and PE/Health teacher at Alice Beal Elementary School in Springfield, Massachusetts, says Fuel Up to Play 60 lets you "take a small idea and explode with it"!
Cindy and her students have been busy with Fuel Up to Play 60 Challenges, including the "Fuel Up and Play 60 Your Way to the Moon" Challenge, which the school won, and the "Fuel Up Recipe Challenge." For the Recipe Challenge, students created their own recipes, and finalists were selected from each grade. The top five winners were announced at a school-wide assembly. Ben, a National Student Ambassador, and fellow Student Ambassador Julia acted as judges for the competition. Ben and Julia were joined by New England Dairy and Food Council member Diane Krol, a local supermarket dietitian and the school cafeteria manager, making the event a real community and school effort. For more information about conducting a recipe contest, see the "Recipe Contest" Play in the online Playbook.

June Is National Dairy Month!
This month, it's time to celebrate 30 Days of Dairy with National Dairy Council. On average, Americans are currently only consuming about two dairy servings per day, missing out on important nutrients. Adding just one more daily serving of low-fat or fat-free dairy can help fill some of America's nutrient gaps, including three of the four nutrients of concern identified by the 2010 Dietary Guidelines - calcium, vitamin D and potassium. Follow National Dairy Council on The Dairy Report and the NDC Facebook and Twitter pages, where National Dairy Council will be celebrating all month long.
Back to Football Friday Contest
Does your school love the NFL? The NFL and Fuel Up to Play 60 are offering schools the chance to win a $10,000 NFL PLAY 60 health and wellness grant and an NFL team celebration through the Back to Football Friday Contest.
To participate, schools must host a Back to Football-themed event showing their NFL team pride and then submit three to six photos and an essay that capture what happened at the event (schools can submit multiple entries). Registration is now open at www.NFLRUSH.com/backtofootball. When you register, don’t forget to say you heard about Back to Football Friday through Fuel Up to Play 60!

Summer is a great time to reach out to potential community partners in preparation for next year’s program. "Tips and Tools for Involving Your Community" will show you how to invite public officials, local celebrities, business owners and neighbors to participate in your Fuel Up to Play 60 program.

General Mills Foodservice joins forces with National Dairy Council (NDC) as the 2011 Breakfast Sponsor, supporting grants to expand school breakfast and to increase student participation by serving breakfast outside the cafeteria in creative ways. Fuel Up Breakfast Grants are available to schools starting a new breakfast program or improving an existing one. Application deadline is July 31.

Combining physical activity with school lessons could increase academic performance, according to a recent study. Researchers found that 40 minutes of physical activity five days a week that included math or spelling components significantly improved students' scores on state tests. To learn how you can incorporate physical activity into your classes, check out our "In-Class Physical Activity Breaks" Play.
